DAY 3 - Montessori in Practice

Today you'll experience Montessori education in action with a visit to one of Nairobi's Montessori schools, gaining insight into how the Montessori philosophy is implemented within an urban learning environment. Spend time observing classrooms, engaging with educators and discovering how children are encouraged to develop independence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning. Later, visit the Child Developers Programme Montessori Teacher Training College to explore how Kenya prepares and supports the next generation of Montessori educators, strengthening teaching capacity and ensuring high-quality Montessori education continues to grow across the country. Together, these experiences provide an important foundation before contrasting Montessori's implementation in Kenya's more remote and nomadic communities in the days ahead.

DAY 4 - Nature and Craft - Crescent Island Wildlife Walk & Gilgil Weavers

Travel into the heart of Kenya's Great Rift Valley to discover the remarkable ecosystems of Lake Naivasha. Cruise across its tranquil waters in search of hippos, African fish eagles and an abundance of birdlife before stepping ashore at Crescent Island for a guided walking safari among freely roaming giraffe, zebra and antelope. With no predators on the island, this unique experience offers an intimate perspective on wildlife and the opportunity to slow down, observe and connect with nature in true Montessori spirit. Later, visit Gilgil Weavers, a community enterprise that has supported local families for more than 40 years through the production of beautifully handcrafted textiles, demonstrating how traditional skills, creativity and sustainable livelihoods can strengthen communities.

DAY 5 - Corner of Hope School

Spend the morning at the Corner of Hope School, a remarkable Montessori outreach initiative that grew from the resilience of displaced communities and the support of the global Montessori community. Meet the educators and community members whose vision and determination transformed hardship into opportunity, creating a place of healing, learning and hope for children and families affected by trauma. Through their stories, you'll gain a deeper understanding of how Montessori education can empower communities, restore dignity and create lasting change.

In the afternoon, join an interactive discussion with the Montessori for Kenya team to explore the organisation's wider programmes, partnerships and vision for expanding access to Montessori education across the country. As you journey north, you'll begin to see how these principles continue to evolve, adapting to the diverse cultures, landscapes and communities that await in Kenya's remote regions.

DAY 6 - Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Journey north across the Equator into the wildlife-rich landscapes of Ol Pejeta Conservancy, one of Africa's leading conservation success stories. Enjoy an afternoon game drive in search of elephants, lions, giraffes, rhinos and the diverse wildlife that thrives across the conservancy's open plains. A highlight of the day is an unforgettable encounter with Najin and Fatu, the world's last two northern white rhinos. Guided by the dedicated team protecting them, you'll hear the remarkable story of a species on the brink of extinction and the pioneering conservation efforts offering hope for its future. It is a powerful reminder that education, science and collective action all play a vital role in shaping the future of our natural world.

DAY 7 - Journey to Samburu

Today we travel north into the ancestral lands of the Samburu people, watching the landscapes gradually transform from the fertile highlands to Kenya's rugged northern frontier. This unhurried journey offers time to appreciate the country's remarkable diversity, passing through rural communities, dramatic escarpments and ever-changing scenery that reveals the close relationship between people and place. By late afternoon, arrive at the community-owned Sabache Camp, where you'll settle into the peaceful surroundings of the Ewaso Ng'iro River and prepare to explore one of Kenya's most culturally rich regions over the coming days.

DAY 8 - Education that moves with the community- Montessori Nomad School

Today you'll visit one of the Sarara Foundation's pioneering Nomadic Montessori Schools, where education has been thoughtfully designed to support the Samburu pastoralist way of life. Rather than expecting families to abandon their traditions, these innovative mobile classrooms move with the community, ensuring children have access to high-quality early learning while remaining connected to their culture, language and homeland. Spend time with teachers, children and community members to discover how Montessori principles have been adapted to one of Kenya's most remote landscapes, creating an inspiring model where education, culture and community flourish together. It is a powerful example of how learning can honour tradition while opening new opportunities for future generations.

DAY 9 Welcome to Il Ngwesi Conservancy

Travel deeper into northern Kenya to Il Ngwesi Conservancy, whose name translates as "People of Wildlife." One of Africa's pioneering community-owned conservancies, Il Ngwesi has shown that thriving wildlife and thriving communities can exist side by side. Arrive at the spectacular community-owned lodge, perched high on a rocky escarpment with sweeping views across the conservancy. Take time to relax by the pool before heading out on an afternoon game drive. As the day draws to a close, enjoy sundowners overlooking the wilderness while reflecting on the remarkable conservation story that has unfolded here over the past three decades.

Day 10 - Learning from the Landscape

This morning, join local Maasai guides on a walking safari to experience the conservancy through generations of Indigenous knowledge. Discover the uses of native medicinal plants, learn to identify animal tracks and signs, and gain a deeper understanding of how pastoralists have lived alongside wildlife in this landscape for centuries. Through stories and observation, you'll see how people, wildlife and healthy ecosystems remain deeply interconnected. Return to the lodge for a relaxed afternoon to enjoy the spectacular setting and absorb the peaceful rhythm of life at Il Ngwesi.

Day 11 - Stories Woven in Beads

Today explores the rich cultural traditions of the Maasai people through art, symbolism and community. Join a traditional beading workshop to discover how colours, patterns and designs communicate identity, family, age and social connection, with each piece telling a story passed from one generation to the next. Later, visit a local Maasai village to learn about pastoral life, community traditions and the enduring relationship between culture, livestock and the surrounding landscape. Together, these experiences reveal that conservation is not only about protecting wildlife—it is also about sustaining the cultures that have shaped these landscapes for centuries.

DAY 12 - Return to Nairobi

This morning, journey back to Nairobi, reflecting on an extraordinary adventure through Kenya. From inspiring Montessori schools and passionate educators to vibrant cultures, remarkable wildlife and community-led conservation, you've experienced Maria Montessori's enduring vision in action. You'll return home with a deeper appreciation of the many ways education can shape lives, strengthen communities and foster a more compassionate and connected world.

DAY 13 - Farewell Kenya - Depart anytime

As your journey comes to a close, take time to reflect on the experiences, conversations and discoveries that have shaped the past twelve days. The wildlife you've encountered, the communities you've met and the educators who have shared their stories all leave us with questions to carry home: How can education create opportunity? How can we live more thoughtfully alongside people and nature? What role can each of us play in creating a better future?

Following breakfast, transfer to Nairobi's international airport for your onward journey.

My favourite part of Kenya is my home, Il Ngwesi in northern Kenya.”

Our vehicle in Kenya is a "pop top" Toyota land cruisers. In Kenya we also have the ability to remove the side windows on our cars, making them completely open. Each land cruiser can seat 7 guests comfortably.

Road travel can be a challenge in Kenya. Roads can be busy and it does take time to move across this stunning landscape. Travelling by road requires patience and a sense of adventure, however the stunning landscapes far outweigh the challenges of travelling on Kenyan roads.
