“Upendo” is the Swahili word for love — and love is at the heart of everything the Upendo Foundation stands for.
Established 16 years ago as a school for street children, the Upendo Foundation has evolved into a safe haven for young people with no family support. Today, it provides not only shelter but also hope, education, and a future.
On this unforgettable journey, you’ll support the vital work of Upendo while immersing yourself in the most iconic landscapes of East Africa.
Get lost in the endless golden plains of the mighty Serengeti, witness the raw beauty of Ngorongoro Crater, home to lions, elephants, hippos, and the elusive black rhino. Marvel at the vibrant birdlife of Lake Manyara and the towering baobabs and playful monkeys of Tarangire National Park.
Then, come to Siha, at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, and spend time with the Upendo Foundation. Meet the children, hear their stories, and learn about the Foundation’s mission and future. This is more than a safari, it’s a journey of connection, compassion, and purpose.

Upendo is the Swahili word for Love.
The Upendo Foundation was established in 2009 as an art school for street kids,. Upendo has evolved into a loving home where children can find safety, support, education and a future.
Faith Mutheu - Director Upendo Foundation, Tanzania
Faith Mutheu has been part of our family since 2014. A trained teacher by profession and a natural caregiver at heart, Faith is the steady, compassionate presence that holds Upendo together. Her quiet strength, deep love for every child, and gentle wisdom shape the warm, peaceful environment that makes Upendo so special. Visitors often tell us how much this is reflected in the children themselves - their kindness, confidence, and calm spirit are a beautiful reflection of Faith’s influence.

Bringing Upendo’s vision to life includes the exciting development of our newly acquired block of land. Our dream is to create a self-sustaining home—where we can grow our own food, achieve food security, and, most importantly, provide a permanent, safe haven for the children of Upendo. This has always been at the heart of our mission, and seeing it begin to take shape is both humbling and deeply inspiring. Spend your final afternoon with Upendo by sharing in our vision for the future. Join us on the new land, be prepared to get down and dirty and help out with a plant or two or a bit of watering. Being a part of the landscape will help you understand the importance of building a brighter, more secure future for the children we care for.
